The Miami Dolphins take to the road on Friday night for a preseason tilt with the New York Giants at Met Life Stadium.
The Dolphins head into this season with some new faces and a ton of pressure on the shoulders of starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill who has shown signs of brilliance but is at a critical juncture in his career. Miami made a running back switch with the Houston Texans as well as they signed former Houston back Arian Foster who when healthy can still be one of the best backs in the NFL but a slew of injuries over the last couple of seasons has really derailed the career of the former Tennessee Volunteers back. Miami also made some acquisitions from the Philadelphia Eagles in bringing in Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso and with Ndamukong Suh on the defensive line they could be a tough team to beat on the defensive side of the ball and in an AFC East division with so many question marks they could make a push to the top if things go to plan.
The Giants meanwhile poached one of Miami’s top players this offseason by bringing in Olivier Vernon and he will be leaned on heavily to contribute in the pass rush for New York this season as they battle with the Eagles, Cowboys, and Redskins for top spot in the NFC East. New York will be under a new regime this year after two time Super Bowl champion Tom Coughlin was let go and while it may take some time to adjust they have the personnel to succeed as Odell Beckham seems to be getting better and better. However, New York has some holes, especially in the defensive secondary and if they can’t fill them by the time the season starts they could be off to a rocky start.
Miami is 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games, 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, and UNDER the number in four of their last five games while the G-Men have gone OVER in their last four games overall and in six of their last seven home games. The Dolphins are the better team to me and will have more of their depth guys going here in a game I see them taking without much difficulty.
