The Line: Detroit Lions -2.5 -- Over/Under: 40 See the Latest Odds

The Detroit Lions look to build on their impressive preseason opening win over the Steelers as they host the Cincinnati Bengals at Ford Field.

The Bengals look to shake off a 17-16 loss in their preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings as they take to the road to face off with the Detroit Lions as we inch closer to each team’s respective season opener in a few weeks time. The Bengals head into this season with high expectations as always but they are also undergoing a bit of an overhaul, especially on defense as one of their top players over the last few seasons in Reggie Nelson bolted to the Oakland Raiders while Vontaze Burfict will be suspended for the stat of the season thanks to his antics in last year’s playoffs. Cincy couldn’t muster much offensively their first time out so we could see an appearance from Andy Dalton, AJ Green, and the tandem of Jeremy Hill and Gio Bernard, though their tenure likely won’t last more than one or two sequences.

The Lions meanwhile are coming off a strong effort against the Steelers and they will look to replicate that as former Iowa and Michigan quarterback Jake Rudock should see extended minutes once again. Detroit is heading into the year in the first wave of life after Calvin Johnson and that will be a big time adjustment but they did snipe Marvin Jones away from the Bengals and while tonight’s game may not matter to most you can be sure that Jones would love to show up his former teammates and justify Detroit’s signing of him in the offseason.

The Bengals are 8-0 ATS in their last eight road games, 12-3-2 ATS in their last 17 games overall, and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five on turf while the Lions are 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall. The Bengals need a better outing tonight and while their starters may not see extended time I think we could see them enough to get an early lead and allow them to at least cover in this one.
