The Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers meet up at Heinz Field on Thursday night in a battle of Pennsylvania teams in the NFL preseason.
The Eagles look to build on their 17-9 victory over the Bucs in their preseason opener but it looks like they will face to do it without Carson Wentz who took a hard shot and is now out with a ribs injury. Philly did play very well in the first quarter though and coasted to victory from there and they will look to replicate that success here against their in-state rivals who have Super Bowl aspirations this season and are coming off disappointing 30-17 loss at the hands of the Detroit Lions in their preseason opener. The Eagles are in the midst of a coaching change and will be run in a new manner this season but there isn’t a ton of optimism for this group and now with Wentz on the shelf it’ll be interesting to see how Sam Bradford responds.
The Steelers meanwhile have had to deal with season defining suspensions lately as they will be without breakout receiver Martavis Bryant for the duration of the year and now they will likely be without Le’Veon Bell for the first four games and maybe more as he continues to battle with substance abuse. The Steelers though are a very dangerous team on both sides of the ball when they are healthy and even with Bell on the shelf they got the bets out of an aging Deangelo Williams who will be out to prove he isn’t quite done yet.
The Eagles are 1-5 ATS in their last six games on grass, 1-4 ATS in their last five Thursday games, and have played OVER in their last four road games while the Steelers are 3-1-1 in their last five ATS on grass, UNDER in their last four games, and UNDER in eight od their last 11 on grass. The Eagles are already having a tough time and it continues here as the Steelers are deep on defense and that should be the difference here.
