The Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers end their preseason Thursday night at Bank of America Stadium.
The Pittsburgh Steelers look to finish the preseason with a .500 record after beating the New Orleans Saints. In the 27-14 victory, Landry Jones led the way with 206 passing yards and one touchdown. Jones is once again going to get majority of the reps in this game with the starters not playing. Antonio Brown and Sammie Coates combined for 140 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Markus Wheaton had two receptions. The Pittsburgh Steelers ground game averaged 3.1 yards per carry and Le'Veon Bell led the charge with 21 yards on three carries. Defensively, Vince Williams led the Steelers with eight tackles, Javon Hargrave had one sack and Lawrence Timmons had one pass deflection.
USA TODAY Sports
The Carolina Panthers have lost two preseason games by a combined five points. In the 19-17 loss to the New England Patriots, Joe Webb led the way with 123 passing yards and two touchdowns. Webb and Derek Anderson are sure to get majority of the reps in this game with the starters not playing. Devin Funchess and Keyarris Garrett combined for 83 receiving yards on six catches while Marcus Lucas had two receptions. The Carolina Panthers ground game averaged 4.6 yards per carry and Cameron Artis-Payne led the charge with 28 yards on nine carries. Defensively, David Mayo led the Panthers with six tackles, Thomas Davis had one sack and Kurt Coleman had one pass deflection.
The Steelers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September and 7-3-2 ATS in their last 12 road games. The Panthers are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games on grass and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games overall. The Steelers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
Don't look now, but Jones has looked sharp this preseason and makes you like Pittsburgh with him playing majority of the game against backups. The Panthers don't have a ton to be excited about backup wise and may struggle here. I'll take a stab with the Steelers and the free points.
