The Houston Texans look to build on their massive home field win over the Arizona Cardinals as they travel to Jerry’s World to face off with the Dallas Cowboys.
The Texans are hoping their preseason form can carry over into the regular season as they are expected to do some damage once again in the AFC South and now with two huge pieces coming over to shore up their offense in the form of Brock Osweiler and Lamar Miller they could be the team to beat in the division once again. Houston is also stacked on defense with one of the scariest front lines in football anchored by JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney and if the latter can live up his hype, which he certainly has done so this preseason, it is going to be very tough for teams to deal with the two ends of the Texans’ defensive line. Houston will look to give the Cowboys fits here who are certainly going to be reeling after the loss of Tony Romo and now that Dak Prescott is the guy behind center we will surely see limited snaps out of him tonight so that lightning doesn’t strike twice.
The Cowboys can’t catch a break as the saga of Tony Romo took another interesting twist last weekend as he fractured his back and is expected to be out 6-10 weeks as a result which gives the reigns to Prescott who was the seventh quarterback taken in this year’s NFL Draft. The Cowboys were projected to be at least co-favourites to win the NFC East with a healthy Romo in the lineup and while Prescott has shown he can do some damage it has been against weaker competition and he will have to show he is capable of leading an NFL offense on the fly. Dallas will likely take this game in stride and likely not send many if any starters out for more than a sequence after the Romo injury.
Houston is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 0-6 ATS in their last six Thursday games while the Cowboys are 10-25-1 ATS in their last 36 home games and 0-3-1 ATS in their last four overall. Dallas will be cautious here while the Texans should thrive and get a big time win in the battle of Texas.
