The Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off on Sunday in Atlanta in a NFL week1 matchup of NFC South teams.
The Atlanta Falcons had a disappointing season last year but they are hoping to turn it around this year and return to the playoffs. Matt Ryan is back as QB of the Falcons and he has one of the top receivers in the game in Julio Jones to throw to along with newly acquired Mohamed Sanu. Devonta Freeman has emerged as a star in the Atlanta backfield and Jacob Tamme looks to sure up the tight end spot. For the Falcons defense it is going to be Tyson Jackson in the middle of the defensive line and Adrian Clayborn counted on to bring some pressure from the end. The Flacons linebackers are anchored by Sean Weatherspoon and Paul Worrilow while Dashon Goldson and Desmond Trufant lead the secondary. The Falcons have some tough teams on the schedule so winning division games will be big for them.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are hoping to take a step forward and become contenders in the NFC South. QB Jameis Winston looks like an emerging star for the Bucs and he has some dependable targets in receivers Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson. Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin had a nice comeback season last year when it looked like he may have been losing it while Charles Sims has been a versatile backup. Defensively for the Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy can dominate and if he does look for William Gholston and Robert Ayers to get single teamed. The Buccaneers linebackers are active with Lavonte David, Darryl Smith, and Kwon Alexander while the entire secondary comes from other teams with players like Brent Grimes and Chris Conte. The Buccaneers will need to win some close games if they want to improve their record.
Atlanta is 2-10 against the spread in their last 12 games, 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games, and 1-8 against the spread against the NFC. Tampa Bay is 0-4 against the spread in their last four games, 0-4 against the spread against the NFC, and 2-7 against the spread in September. The favorite has covered the point spread in five of the last six meetings of these two.
The point spread looks to be about right in this one as it’s basically even so I will take the points with the Bucs here.
