The Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks open the 2016 season late Sunday afternoon at CenturyLink Field.
The Miami Dolphins have been stuck in mediocrity for years and now begin a new era under head coach Adam Gase. the Dolphins aren’t going to improve until quarterback Ryan Tannehill shows more consistency and becomes more of a playmaker with the ball. Miami has a solid offensive line with a healthy Branden Albert and the addition of rookie Laremy Tunsil, which should help. Tannehill also has reliable weapons in DeVante Parker, Jarvis Landry and veteran running back Arian Foster. So, basically, no more excuses for this side of the ball. Defensively, the Miami Dolphins finished last season ranked 26th in total yards allowed and 20th in scoring defense. The good news for this unit is that a defensive line that includes Cameron Wake, Ndamukong Suh and Mario Williams has the potential to do damage this season.

The Seattle Seahawks have won double-digit games four straight seasons and enter another year as Super Bowl contenders. Seattle lost the heart and soul of its offense in running back Marshawn Lynch, but Russell Wilson has proven to be one of the top quarterbacks in the league and he should be able to keep this unit intact. Thomas Rawls was also very solid last season after averaging 5.6 yards on 147 carries. The concern is that tight end Jimmy Graham is still questionable with a knee injury. Defensively, the Seattle Seahawks finished last season ranked second in total yards allowed and first in scoring defense. The Seahawks calling card continues to be the defensive side of the ball, and that will remain the case as long as guys such as Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor and K.J. Wright are taking the field together. Scary.
The Dolphins are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games overall. The Seahawks are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games in September and 39-19-2 ATS in their last 60 games on fieldturf. The Dolphins are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
Tannehill has yet to prove he can be a difference maker at quarterback, and now he goes into the loudest staidum in the NFL against one of the best and most physical defenses. Not to mention the Dolphins have issues defensively at linebacker and in the secondary. I hate double-digit chalk, especially in the first week of the season where we're still feeling teams out.
However, this game could get ugly for the Dolphins.
