The Minnesota Vikings look to stay undefeated as they welcome the Houston Texans to town in what could be a defensively show case.
The Texans head into Minnesota looking to build on a week four win against the Tennessee Titans and will have to find a way to solve the tenacious Vikings defense that has stifled opponents for the last four weeks. Houston was expected to do some damage in the AFC this season after signing Lamar Miller in the offseason and drafting wide receiver Will Fuller but the loss of JJ Watt put a huge dent in those plans and softens up what was a ferocious front line of the Houston pass rush. The Texans need to find a way to get Deandre Hopkins more involved as he has been silent the last couple of weeks and while the Vikings defense is stingy, they don’t score a ton of points and if Houston can get their passing game going they have a great shot at getting a win here.

The Vikings continue to lose top end talent but it doesn’t seem to matter as Mike Zimmer has this group believing in a strong defensive game plan, and game management on offense and it has worked perfectly thus far. The Vikes are coming off a Monday night win against the Giants in which emerging corner Xavier Rhodes held Odell Beckham in check and he will likely carry the assignment of covering Hopkins in this one. Minnesota hasn’t been great offensively as Sam Bradford can’t seem to find any chemistry with Stefon Diggs over the last couple of weeks and if they have to rely solely on their run game moving forward it could make them one dimensional and allow teams to scheme for them with great success.
The Texans are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall, 1-10 in their last 11 ATS during week five, and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after a cover while the Vikings are 6-0 in their last six games in October, 5-0 ATS in their last five against a team with a winning record, and 6-0 in their last six games in October. The trends are pointing in Minny’s favour here and they have been excellent so far but I have to side with the Texans as they have too much talent offensively to be getting a touchdown and with Minnesota not scoring a lot as is I am taking the points.
