The New England Patriots face an AFC North team for the 3rd straight week as they head to Heinz Field to take on the Ben Roethlisberger-less Pittsburgh Steelers in week 7 NFL action.
The New England Patriots improved to 5-1 with a 35-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in week 6. Tom Brady looked dominant in the victory, completing 29 of his 35 pass attempts for 376 yards and 3 touchdowns while being sacked 3 times on the afternoon. Legarrette Blount led the Pats backfield with 50 yards and a garbage time touchdown on 13 carries, while backup James White saw his heaviest workload of the season with 7 carries but only managed to gain 19 yards. Rob Gronkowski got back to looking like his normal Gronk self, with easily his best game of the season, catching 7 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown while fellow tight end Martellus Bennett was next on the list with 5 catches for 48 yards. Defensively, it was a decent performance for the Patriots, as they still ended up winning by such a wide margin after allowing their 2nd highest total yardage against this season, with the Bengals logging 357 yards of total offense.
The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to 4-2 after a 30-15 defeat at the hands of the Miami Dolphins. Ben Roethlisberger completed 19 of his 34 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown that was negated by a pair of interceptions. However the bigger story to Pittsburgh and more notably Roethlisberger, is that Big Ben suffered a torn meniscus in the 2nd quarter that will require surgery, forcing Roethlisberger to miss at least the next 4-6 weeks. LeVeon Bell did his best to pick up his fallen teammate, leading the team in rushing yards with 53 on 10 carries and leading in receptions and receiving yards with 6 receptions for 55 yards. However it was Darrius Heyward-Bey that led the Steelers in rushing yards, after using his lone carry to run 60 yards for a touchdown. Defensively, it was a disappointing day for the Steelers, as they allowed 474 yards of total offense to a Miami team that is still 20th in the league in total yardage despite the outburst last week. Not to mention Pittsburgh failed to record a sack or an interception in the loss.
New England is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the AFC while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Pittsburgh is 5-2-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall and 4-1-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. the AFC while the under is 20-8 in their last 28 games in the month of October. New England is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Pittsburgh.
New England has won 3 of the last 4 meetings, and that’s WITH Ben Roethlisberger starting. Landry Jones has shown at times he can be a serviceable option at quarterback, but I just can’t back Pittsburgh with how well New England has been playing and now the Steelers have to throw in their backup quarterback against one of the best defenses in the league.
Lay the points with New England.
