The Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions meet Sunday afternoon in a NFC NFL showdown at Ford Field.
The Chicago Bears look for back-to-back wins for the first time this season. The Chicago Bears have lost eight of their last 12 road games. Matt Barkley is completing 51.7 percent of his passes for 589 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. Barkley enters this game with 137 career pass attempts under his belt. Alshon Jeffery and Cameron Meredith have combined for more than 1,146 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Zach Miller has 47 receptions. The Chicago Bears ground game is averaging 102.1 yards per contest, and Jordan Howard leads the way with 883 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, Chicago is allowing 22.5 points and 326.8 yards per game. Jerrell Freeman leads the Chicago Bears with 91 tackles, Willie Young has 7.5 sacks and Tracy Porter has two interceptions.
The Detroit Lions look for their ninth victory to build on their lead in the NFC North. The Detroit Lions have won five straight home games. Matthew Stafford is completing 67.2 percent of his passes for 3,224 yards, 21 touchdowns and five interceptions. Stafford has two or more touchdown passes in four of his last eight games. Golden Tate and Marvin Jones have combined for more than 1,492 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while Eric Ebron has 39 receptions. The Detroit Lions ground game is averaging 81.2 yards per contest, and Theo Riddick leads the way with 357 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Detroit is allowing 20.9 points and 354.8 yards per game. Tahir Whitehead leads the Detroit Lions with 101 tackles, Kerry Hyder has seven sacks and Tavon Wilson has two interceptions.
The Bears are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Lions are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Bears are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings in Detroit and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 meetings overall.
The Detroit Lions remain one of the hotter teams in the NFL right now and have their eyes set on a division crown. The Chicago Bears did look solid last week, but I'm not sure how much stock we put into that given it was against the San Fran 49ers. Either way, the Lions have played down to their comp all season long and seven of their eight wins this season have been decided by seven or less points. The Bears also beat the Lions earlier this season. The only comfortable win for the Lions came last week against the New Orleans Saints. There's better bets on the board this week, but if forced to pick, I'd take my eight free points with the Bears given how close the Lions have played all season.
