A playoff-type atmosphere will be in the air on Monday night, as the Detroit Lions head to AT&T Stadium to take on the Dallas Cowboys.
The Detroit Lions will look for a big win to give their playoff hopes a major lift after having their 5-game win streak snapped by the New York Giants in week 15, by a final score of 17-6. Matthew Stafford completed 24 of 39 passes for 273 yards and an interception while being sacked once in the loss. Dwayne Washington led the Lions lackluster ground attack with 31 yards on 14 carries. Golden Tate was the leader of the Lions receiving group in week 15, putting up 8 catches for 122 yards, while Zach Zenner caught 4 passes out of the backfield for 52 yards but also logged a fumble, which the Giants recovered. Defensively, it was a decent outing for Detroit, as they held the Giants to just 300 yards of total offense while sacking Eli Manning twice, but the offense just couldn’t get it done when it counted, despite the time of possession battle being practically even.

The Dallas Cowboys will look to wrap up the NFC East and home field throughout the playoffs with a win in primetime. The Cowboys climbed to 12-2, blouncing back from their week 14 defeat at the hands of the same New York Giants, with a 26-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dak Prescott has his most efficient game as a pro, completing 32 of his 36 pass attempts for 279 yards through the air while being sacked 3 times in the win. Prescott also called his own number on the ground 4 times, for 20 yards and a touchdown. But that was no match for Exekiel Elliott, who racked up 159 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, followed by a viral post-TD celebration, jumping into the Salvation Army kettle. Dez Bryant led the Cowboys with 82 yards receiving on 8 catches, while Jason Witten caught a team-high 10 balls for 51 yards. Defensively, it was a great outing for the Cowboys, as they stifled the Bucs’ run game, and held Tampa Bay to just 276 yards of total offense while recording 3 interceptions and 4 sacks of Bucs QB Jameis Winston.
Detroit is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Monday Nighters and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the under is 8-0 in their last 8 games overall. Dallas is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Monday Nighters and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 vs. the NFC. The underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I’m confident that Dallas will win this game and wrap up the division and home field, but a touchdown to me is a lot to give one of the better offenses over the last few weeks, despite putting up a stinker last weekend. Plus, all the trends point to taking the underdog Lions in this spot, and that’s exactly what I will do in what I see being a low scoring game.
