Coming up on Sunday, January 1 from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, we’ve got a Week 17 NFL clash in the AFC East between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins.

The Patriots have had another great season this year with a 13-2 record. New England has won their last six games straight, including last weekend’s 41-3 dismantling of the Jets. In that game, Pats QB Tom Brady bagged 214 yards and three touchdowns.

On the season so far, Brady has managed 3278 yards, 25 touchdowns and just two picks, while LeGarrette Blount leads the New England rushers on 1110 yards and 17 touchdowns. Julian Edelman is tops in the Patriots receivers with 90 catches for 955 yards and two scores.

Over on the Dolphins’ side, they’re entering play in Week 17 with a solid 10-5 mark on the year. Miami has won nine of their last 10 games, including a 34-31 squeaker against Buffalo in Week 16. In that game, Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi bagged 32 carries for 206 yards and a TD to help seal the win.

On the year thus far, Miami QB Ryan Tannehill sits on 2995 yards with 19 touchdowns and 12 picks, while Ajayi leads the rushers on 1213 yards and eight scores. Jarvis Landry is Miami’s top receiver with 85 catches for 1060 yards and three touchdowns.

The Patriots are 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a straight-up win, and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. New England is also 7-1 ATS in their last eight games against the AFC, and 5-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record.

As for Miami, they’re 4-0 ATS in their last four against the AFC East, and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS win. The Dolphins are also 6-1 ATS in their last seven versus the AFC, and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games on grass.

Both of these teams are headed to the playoffs, as Miami’s status was cemented in Week 16. Now becomes that tricky question of whether or not they’ll rest starters and just phone it in on Sunday. My gut tells me New England will play this out, especially against an AFC East rival, as they’re not known for taking their for off the gas pedal. If Brady and company stay in most of the game, this should be a Pats cover pretty easily.
