The San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks face off on Sunday in Week 17 NFL NFC West action.
The San Francisco 49ers are 2-13 this season and they are coming off of a win against the Rams last week. The 49ers offense is averaging a 27th ranked 19.1 points per game and a 29th ranked 311.8 yards per game and they ae minus 3 in turnover ratio. San Francisco QB Colin Kaepernick has completed 57.7 percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns and 4 interceptions and he has rushed for 452 yards and 2 touchdowns. Carlos Hyde leads the 49ers rushing attack with 988 yards and 6 touchdowns and Jeremy Kerley has 58 catches and 3 touchdowns. The San Francisco defense is the worst in the league ranking 32nd in both points allowed per game at 30.3 and yards allowed per game at 408.4 with 10 interceptions, 15 fumble recoveries, and 31 sacks. Antoine Bethea is the Niners top tackler with 102, Nick Bellore has 83 tackles, and DeForest Buckner and Ahmad Brooks have 6 sacks each. This season has been a struggle for the 49ers and they should be drafting very early in the NFL Draft.
The Seattle Seahawks are 9-5-1 this season and have won the NFC West but with a win and a Falcons loss they would get a first-round bye in the playoffs. The Seahawks offense is averaging a 20th ranked 21.9 points per game and a 15th ranked 355.9 yards and they have a minus 1 turnover ratio. Seattle QB Russell Wilson has completed 65 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and he has rushed for 255 yards. Thomas Rawls is the Seahawks top rusher but he is banged up and Alex Collins is likely to see plenty of action while Doug Baldwin is the top receiver with 92 catches and 7 touchdowns. Defensively the Seahawks are 2nd in points allowed per game at 17.9 and 7th in yards allowed per game at 323.1 with 11 interceptions, 14 fumble recoveries, and 37 sacks. Bobby Wagner is Seattle’s top tackler with 155, K.J. Wright has 119, and Cliff Avril has 11.5 sacks. The Seahawks have been up and down all year and have blown many chances to improve their playoff spot but at the end of the day they are a playoff team.
San Francisco is 0-6 against the spread in their last 6 home games, 1-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 3-11 against the spread in their last 14 games. Seattle is 5-0 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, 20-7 against the spread following a loss, and 7-2 against the spread following a game where they scored 30 or more points. Seattle has covered the point spread in their last 4 games in San Francisco.
This is a big number and we have seen the Seahawks offense struggle but at the end of the day the 49ers aren’t a good team and Seattle could have some solid motivation.
