The Seattle Seahawks look for a big home field victory over the Detroit Lions as the NFC Wild Card Round kicks off Saturday night at Century Link Field.
The Lions have their work cut out for them this Saturday as they take to the road to match up against the Seattle Seahawks after backing their way into the playoffs last weekend and if they’re going to get the victory or even keep this one close they are going to need a big effort from Matthew Stafford. The Lions have had some big wins this season and a lot of it has to do with the late game heroics of their former Georgia Bulldog and against a Seattle side that has been a bit inconsistent this season and is without Earl Thomas they are certainly in a position to be exploited if he can have a strong game. The Lions will also need a big night from their defensive front as the likes of Ziggy Ansah need to get pressure on Russell Wilson and contain his ability to move the ball with his feet as that dimension really opens things up for the Seattle offense.
The Seahawks have been a polarizing team in the NFC this season as some have them pegged for another deep playoff run while others think they are a one and done, even against a team like Detroit who doesn’t match up overly well with Seattle. The Seahawks though do have the benefit of having much more playoff experience and are playing in front of one of the loudest fan bases in the NFL and the “12’s” can certainly play a factor in this game and with Richard Sherman calling on the fans to create some havoc you can be sure they will answer the call. Seattle is favoured by more than a touchdown but the public is backing the Lions right now as the line in this one could move closer to the seven point mark by kickoff.
The Lions are 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall and are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games while the Seahawks are 5-1 in their last six ATS on turf and are 5-1 ATS in their last six after failing to cover the week before. This is a tough one to call as the Seahawks are the better team and should get the win at home but Stafford and company have stuck around all season and should be able to move the ball. However, a late game close by the Hawks should give them enough to cover as I have them winning by 10.
