The Calgary Stampeders and Ottawa Redblacks meet Friday in CFL action at the TD Place Stadium.
The Calgary Stampeders hope to get back back to the big game after finishing 15-2-1 last season that ended with a loss in the Grey Cup. Calgary is always going to have a chance to win with Bo Levi Mitchell at quarterback, as he threw for more than 5,300 yards and 32 touchdowns last season, giving the Stampeders one of the scarier offenses we've seen recently. Mitchell will have most of his weapons back as well with Marquay McDaniel, DaVaris Daniels, Anthony Parker and Jerome Messam all returning after being the key players on the offense. Defensively, Calgary returns its top tackler in Deron Mayo, its top sacker in Charleston Hughes and its interception leader in Jamar Wall. The Stampeders are favorites to win the Grey Cup with all their returning talent.

The Ottawa Redblacks hope to get off to a quick start after winning the Grey Cup despite a 8-9-1 record. Trevor Harris will takeover full time at quarterback after 3,300 yards and 16 touchdowns last season despite splitting time with Henry Burris. Harris has more than 8,000 career passing yards and could be great in this offense if he's able to manage his interceptions. Greg Ellingson and Brad Sinopoli return after combining for more than 2,200 receiving yards and eight touchdowns while Mossis Madu Jr. returns to running back after falling just short of 500 yards a season ago. Defensively, Khalil Bass will lead the charge at linebacker after 82 tackles, Arnaud Gascon-Nadon had six sacks last season and A.J. Jefferson had three interceptions. Ottawa isn't the same team it was last year, but there's still enough to make another run in its title defense.
The Stampeders are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games, 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 games in June and 14-5 ATS in their last 19 games overall. The RedBlacks are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games, 2-7 ATS in their last 9 Friday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog. The Stampeders are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings and the over is 4-0-1 in the last 5 meetings.
The Calgary Stampeders proved last year that they were the best team in the league last season and had no problem winning regardless of where the games were played. Calgary will also have a little extra fire in its belly after losing the Grey Cup to this Ottawa team. Of course, this is going to be a nasty home crowd with the title celebration and everything that comes with that, but there's no doubt Calgary is the better team here. I'll eat the small line in a game the Stampeders should win.
