The Jacksonville Jaguars look for their second straight preseason victory as they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night.
The Jags took down the reigning Super Bowl champions in Foxboro in their preseason opener and they will be out for more in their preseason home opener against the Bucs in a battle of two of the three Florida based teams. Jacksonville is coming off a terrible season in which they only manage three victories and while hope is high they can greatly improve on that number this year they are going to be in tough in an improved division that features the Titans and Texans, both of whom are expected to make the playoffs this season. Jacksonville’s defense is among the league’s best if playing together and while their offense is potentially strong they will only go as far as Blake Bortles will take them and based on his resume and track record there isn’t a ton of hope and faith in their signal caller.
The Bucs meanwhile are a team that is expected to take the next step into NFC playoff picture, and while they have to contend with the Panthers, Saints, and Falcons they are still a group that many expects to be in the mix come playoff team, whether as NFC South champs or as a wild card team. Jameis Winston and Mike Evans are another year older and they brought in some great pieces in the form of Desean Jackson and rookie OJ Howard to add to the offensive mix and with Gerald McCoy still manning the defense this team has the potential to be great, whether it comes to fruition this season or next.
The Jags are 2-5 in their last seven ATS on grass and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games while the Bucs are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall. The Jags got a big win against the Pats but I expect the Bucs to get in the win column here as they cover and put up points on the Jags.
