The Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles meet Thursday in NFL preseason action at the Lincoln Financial Field.
The Miami Dolphins are 1-1 in preseason action and are coming off a 7-31 beatdown from the Baltimore Ravens. Jay Cutler has thrown just six passes this preseason and with this being pretty much the last chance for him to build chemistry with his new team, you can expect him to play a chunk of this contest. In the losing effort, David Fales completed six of 14 passes for 41 yards. Running back Senorise Perry had the lone highlight for Miami with 25 rushing yards and a touchdown while DeVante Parker and Malcolm Lewis combined for 31 receiving yards on three receptions. Defensively, Chase Allen led the Dolphins with eight tackles, Mike Hull had one tackle for loss and A.J. Hendy had six solo tackles. The Miami Dolphins have an idea of who they are on both sides of the field, but getting Cutler comfortable with the offense is the most important thing heading into the regular season.
The Philadelphia Eagles are also 1-1 in preseason play and are coming off a 20-16 win over the Buffalo Bills. In the victory, Matt McGloin led the way completing 12 of 20 passes for 131 yards while Carson Wentz completed six of nine pass attempts. Of course, Wentz should see the bulk of the reps for this contest as the Eagles prepare for the Washington Redskins week 1. Rookie running back Corey Clement produced 34 yards and a touchdown on eight touches while Marcus Johnson and Billy Brown combined for 79 receiving yards on six receptions. Defensively, Terrence Brooks led the Eagles with eight tackles, Steven Means had two sacks and Mychal Kendricks had two tackles for loss. The Philadelphia Eagles have scored 29 points in their first two preseason games, and while it’s just preseason, you’d like to see more production from an offense that’s expected to be one of the better units in the league this season.
The Eagles are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games on grass and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games. The over is 6-1 in Dolphins last 7 games overall. The Dolphins are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings, the road team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings and the under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
The starters are expected to play at least the first half of this game with it being the third preseason contest. And one thing we know about both of these clubs is that they're loaded with offensive weapons. You can expect both offenses to push the ball a bit in hopes of getting their quarterbacks ready, especially the Dolphins, who are still trying to make Cutler comfortable. We could see some points in this game, which is why I'm siding with the over. A score of 24-21 is a likely outcome here.
