The Line: Carolina Panthers -4.5 -- Over/Under: 37.5 See the Latest Odds

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers meet Thursday in week 4 of the NFL preseason at Bank of America Stadium.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 2-1 in preseason play and their starters will be getting ready for the Cleveland Browns week 1. This game won’t be much different for the Steelers considering they haven’t played their starters much anyway. Landry Jones is coming off a game in which he completed 21 of 31 passes, and he’ll get majority of the reps yet again with rookie Joshua Dobbs getting the fourth quarter. This is also another chance for rookie running back James Conner to earn regular season playing time before Le’Veon Bell returns to the team a day later after a lengthy holdout. Defensively, the Steelers have allowed 19 or less points in all three games and are coming off a game in which they had three tackles for loss. The Pittsburgh Steelers have lost eight of their last 12 preseason games.

Carolina Panthers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers - 8/31/17 NFL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Carolina Panthers are 2-1 in preseason play and their starters will be getting ready for the San Francisco 49ers week 1. The Panthers can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Cam Newton is ready to go, but you’d still like to see good production from backups Derek Anderson and Joe Webb just incase anything pops up. Rookie running back Christian McCaffrey has had his moments all preseason long and could eventually be thrown into a starting role, while Carolina’s patched up offensive line looks to be coming together, which is good for the ground game and its star quarterback. The Panthers are likely looking for defensive standouts in this game considering they’ve allowed a combined 57 points the last two games. Regardless, the Carolina Panthers have to look at this preseason as a victory with Newton back on the field and ready for the regular season.

The Steelers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games, 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass, 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Thursday games. The Steelers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 meetings and the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been too sharp defensively this preseason to just give up nearly five points in a preseason game. You don't see lines this high often, and I'm not sure why the Panthers are getting this much respect considering they haven't exactly blown the doors off in their last two games. Add in the fact Jones usually plays well in the preseason and is coming off a solid showing, you have to side with the Steelers and the free points. This line seems a bit fishy.
