The Arizona Cardinals and the Detroit Lions face off in week one NFL action on Sunday from Ford Field.
The Arizona Cardinals will look to forget about their horrendous end to the preseason, a 30-2 loss to the Broncos to finish the preseason under .500. Blaine Gabbert threw for just 51 yards on 5 of 10 passing while Trevor Knight struggled, throwing for 19 yards on just 2 of 12 passing with an interception. Elijhaa Penny made the best of the situation, taking his 17 carries and turning them into 77 yards while James Smmers racked up 43 yards with his 17 carries. Jeremy Ross led the Cards with a pair of catches for 38 yards as only four Arizona receivers combined for the team’s 7 receptions. Defensively, Alex Bazzie’s sack in the end zone opened the scoring for the Cards with a safety, but that’s all the scoring they would do. Philip Wheeler also got to the QB in the backfield while Rudy Ford led the team with 4 tackles and a fumble recovery.

The Detroit Lions will look for a strong start to the season after finishing the preseason at .500 with a 2-2 record following a 27-17 loss to the Bills in their preseason finale. Brad Kaaya made a strong case for the team’s backup QB job, going 12 of 20 for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns along with an interception. Tion Green was the star of the show offensively, leading the team with 63 yards rushing on 8 carries while also leading the squad with 4 catches for 87 yards and a 74-yard catch and run touchdown. Dontez Ford caught 3 balls for 31 yards and a touchdown of his own in the loss. Defensively, a Jalen Reeves-Maybin sack highlighted an otherwise disappointing performance from the Lions’ D, allowing 327 yards of total offense, 205 of which came on the ground.
Arizona is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in September and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall. Detroit is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games against the NFC and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games while the under is 9-2 in their last 11 games overall. The home team is 11-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings between these two teams.
This should be an interesting one to watch as the Cardinals will look to avoid replicating their poor early season form from last season, while Detroit needs to get off to a good start and Matt Stafford will be out to prove he’s worth the mega contract offered to him recently. All in all, even though the Cardinals have done well ATS in the last few meetings between these two, They’ve struggled against the number in Detroit, and the home team has owned the spread over the years in this matchup. Since the line is at a pick ‘em, I’ll take the Lions here for the win.
