The Kansas City Chiefs got off to a strong start of their own, kicking the 2017 season off right with a 42-27 win over the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. Alex Smith completed 28 of 35 passes for 368 yards and 4 touchdowns. Kareem Hunt had one of the most memorable debuts in NFL history, fumbling on his first professional carry, then proceeding to rack up 148 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, while also logging 5 receptions out of the backfield for 98 yards and two more receiving touchdowns. Tyreek Hill led the team with 7 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown while Demetrius Harris added a receiving TD of his own as Kansas City hung up 42 points on the Pats, a New England record for most points against under a Bill Belichick-led defense. Defensively, the Chiefs combined for 3 sacks, 2 from Justin Houston, along with a forced fumble from Dee Ford as KC was able to shut down the Patriots down the stretch.
Philadelphia is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 week 2 matchups. Kansas City is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 games following a win. Philadelphia is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Philadelphia had a solid showing in the opener, but the Chiefs went into Foxborough, beat the Patriots at their own game and came out with the victory. Now time will tell if that was just a flash in the pan, but as far as week 2 goes, if week 1 was a sign of things to come, I’m all over the Chiefs at home and I think Kansas City can win this one by at least a touchdown.
