Up at Ford Field on Sunday, the Atlanta Falcons and the Detroit Lions will be meeting up in Week 3 NFL action.

The Falcons are sitting pretty at 2-0 so far following a 23-17 win over the Bears in the opener and a 34-23 win over the Packers this past Sunday. In that Green Bay game, Atlanta QB Matt Ryan logged a 19-of-28 line for 252 yards and a TD, while Devontae Freeman put up 84 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Julio Jones was the top Falcons receiver with 108 yards on nine catches.

This season so far, Ryan has 573 yards and a 69.0 percent completion percentage with two touchdowns for the Falcons, while Freeman has 121 yards and three scores. As for Jones, he’s the top Atlanta WR with 174 yards on 14 targets and nine receptions, but he hasn’t found the end zone yet.

Over on the Lions’ side, they’re currently 2-0 as well after victories over the Cardinals 35-23 in the opener and the Giants 24-10 on Monday. In that Giants game, Lions QB Matthew Stafford posted a 15-of-21 line for 122 yards and two touchdowns while Ameer Abdullah logged 17 carries for 86 yards.

So far this season, Stafford has 414 yards with six touchdowns and one pick, while Abdullah leads Detroit on 116 yards on 32 attempts. Leading the Lions in receiving this year is Golden Tate, who has 14 catches on 16 targets for 132 yards.

The Falcons are 4-1 ATS in their last five games in Week 3 and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games. Atlanta is also 7-2 ATS in their last nine versus the NFC and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games in September.

Meanwhile, the Lions are 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. Detroit is also 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win and 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 games in Week 3.

After a dominant performance on “Monday Night Football,” everyone is jumping on the Lions bandwagon. While it is true that the Lions can contend for the division this year and may well see another playoff berth, they’ve played a couple of underwhelming teams thus far. Arizona is not as good as advertised, and the Giants’ pass protection was plain awful in that Monday game. Detroit is still a solid team this season, but going up against the defending NFC champs who have looked good so far, I have to go with the Falcons here.

Andrew’s Pick Atlanta Falcons -3
