The Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans face off in week 5’s edition of Sunday Night Football from NRG Stadium on NBC.
The Kansas City Chiefs will look to remain the league’s lone unbeaten team after improving to 4-0 with a 29-20 win over Kansas City on Monday Night Football in week 4. Alex Smith threw for 293 yards and a touchdown on 27 of 37 passing, while also rushing the ball 7 times for 56 yards and a TD on the ground. Kareem Hunt led the Chiefs’ ground attack with 21 carries for 101 yards, while Travis Kelce led the receiving corps with 7 catches for 111 yards and the team’s lone TD grab. Albert Wilson contributed 63 receiving yards, while Tyreek Hill and Charcandrick West each caught 5 passes in the win. Defensively, a Justin Houston fumble return for a touchdown as time expired either made you money or broke your heart as the score helped the Chiefs cover the spread while holding Washington to just 331 yards of total offense in the win.

The Houston Texans will look to climb above .500 for the 1st time this season after a 57-14 rout of the Titans in week 4 helped Houston climb to 2-2 this season. Deshaun Watson threw for 283 yards and 4 touchdowns on 25 of 34 passing, while also running for a touchdown as well on 4 carries for 24 yards. Lamar Miller turned his 19 carries into 75 yards and a touchdown, while also hauling in 4 passes for 56 yards and a receiving TD. D’Onta Freeman chipped in 45 rushing yards of his own, while DeAndre Hopkins led the Texans with 10 catches for 107 yards and a score. Will Fuller V caught 4 passes for 35 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win. Defensively the Texans combined for a pair of sacks and 4 interceptions, including a 25-yard pick-six from Dylan Cole, all while limiting the Titans to just 195 yards of total offense and dominating the time of possession battle, holding onto the rock for almost two-thirds of the game.
Kansas City is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the under is 9-3 in their last 12 games in October. Houston is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a win and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games against a team with a winning road record while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games following a win. Kansas City is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Houston.
The Texans may be onto something here, as they have a rock solid defense and Watson looks like he has all the makings of a star in the NFL. However, Kansas City will be the best defense he’s faced to date, and the Chiefs have already gone on the road and taken down New England in Foxborough and have had the reputation of road warriors against the spread. Add in the fact that the Chiefs have had the bulk of the success in this matchup, and that this line is almost essentially a pick’ em, I have to side with the hot hand in Kansas City until they cool off.
