A pair of winless teams go head-to-head at MetLife Stadium in week 5 NFL action, as the Los Angeles Chargers pay a visit to the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon.

The Los Angeles Chargers will look to snap their 0-4 start to the season after narrowly falling to the Eagles by a final score of 26-24 in week 4. Philip Rivers threw for 347 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 22 of 38 passing. Austin Ekeler took his lone carry 35 yards to the house for a touchdown to lead the team in rushing yards, while Melvin Gordon turned his 10 carries into just 22 yards. The Chargers had a pair of 100-yard receivers in the loss, with Keenan Allen hauling in 5 passes for 138 yards, while Tyrell Williams caught 5 balls of his own for 115 yards and a touchdown. Hunter Henry adding a receiving TD grab of his own in the losing effort. Defensively, a Darius Philon sack was the lone highlight in an otherwise frustrating outing for the Chargers’ D, giving up 454 yards of total offense while being dominated in the time of possession battle, allowing Philly to hold onto the rock for just over 39 minutes in the game.

The New York Giants will also look to end their 0-4 drought to start the year after a heartbreaking 25-23 loss to the Buccaneers in week 4. Eli Manning completed 30 of his 49 pass attempts for 288 yards and a pair of TDs, while also calling his own number 3 times for 22 yards and a rushing touchdown as well. Wayne Gallman led the G-Men with 42 rushing yards on 11 carries, while Odell Beckham Jr. logged team-highs of 7 catches for 90 yards in the loss. Evan Engram and Brandon Marshall each caught 6 passes, while Sterling Shepard added 5 receptions for 54 yards and Rhett Ellison along with the aforementioned Gallman, caught a touchdown pass in the losing effort. Defensively, Jason Pierre-Paul and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie combined for a sack as the lone highlight in the loss, giving up 434 yards of total offense despite holding onto the ball on offense for over 34 minutes in the loss.

The Chargers are 0-7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record. New York is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games while the under is 9-3 in their last 12 games overall. Los Angeles is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

The Chargers have had a couple of bad breaks, and come up just short a couple of times this season, or else this could be a .500 or even a 3-1 team. The Giants on the other hand are a complete mess despite their amount of talent, and until New York gets those issues sorted out, they are on the must-fade list until I see otherwise. Given L.A.’s success against the spread in this matchup, I’ve gotta go with the Chargers and the points.
