We’ve got an AFC clash coming on Sunday in Week 6 NFL action as the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Steelers are sitting at 3-2 on the year, with wins over Cleveland, Minnesota and the Ravens alongside losses to Chicago and Jacksonville. In that Jaguars game, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger had an awful outing on 33-of-55 passing for 312 yards and five interceptions. LeVeon Bell was Pittsburgh’s top rusher with 15 carries for just 47 yards.
So far this season, Roethlisberger has 1269 yards, six touchdowns and seven picks; Bell is the top Pittsburgh rusher on 102 attempts for 371 yards and three scores. Antonio Brown is of course the Steelers’ lead receiver with his 40 receptions on 64 targets for 545 yards and one TD.
Over on the Chiefs’ side, they’re cruising along at 5-0 with wins over the Patriots, Eagles, Chargers, Redskins and Texans. In that Houston game, Kansas City QB Alex Smith put up a 29-of-37 line for 324 yards and three touchdowns, while Kareem Hunt handled the rushing duties with 29 carries for 107 yards.
On the year thus far, Smith has 1391 yards, 11 touchdowns and zero picks, while Hunt is the top Chiefs rusher on 97 attempts for 609 yards and four scores. Tyreek Hill is KC’s lead receiver with 25 catches on 34 targets for 356 yards and two touchdowns.
The Steelers are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games following an ATS loss and 4-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record. Pittsburgh is also 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a double-digit loss at home and 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games following a straight-up loss.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs are 5-0 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up win and 5-0 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win. KC is also 5-1 ATS in their last six versus the AFC and 4-1 ATS in their last five games in October.
The Steelers looked pretty sharp against Baltimore, but two of their last three games have been downright meltdowns. Pittsburgh fell to a mediocre Chicago team 23-17 in OT, and was destroyed 30-9 by Jacksonville thanks mostly to Roethlisberger’s picks. As for KC, they’re looking like the top contenders in the AFC right now, and Smith is really coming into his own as a QB. Earlier in the season I would have thought this matchup would be a lot closer, but as it stands right now I can’t pick against the Chiefs with the line being so reasonable. Give me KC.
