The Los Angeles Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars face off in week 6 NFL inter-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Rams will look to bounce back after having a mini 2-game winning streak snapped, thanks to a 16-10 loss to Seattle in their last outing. Jared Goff threw for 288 yards and a pair of interceptions on 22 of 47 passing. Todd Gurley racked up 43 yards on a team-high 14 carries, while Tavon Austin put up 27 yards and a touchdown on 6 carries. Tyler Higbee racked up a team-high 98 receiving yards, while Robert Woods caught a team-high 5 balls for 66 yards in the loss. Defensively, the Rams combined for 3 sacks and a pair of interceptions, all while holding the Seahawks’ offense to just 241 yards of total offense in the losing effort.
The Jacksonville Jaguars surprisingly find themselves at the top of the AFC South at 3-2 this season following a 30-9 beatdown of the Steelers in week 5. Blake Bortles threw for just 95 yards and an interception on 8 of 14 passing, while Leonard Fournette put up 181 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 28 carries. Marqise Lee led the team with a pair of catches for 49 yards, while Allen Hurns caught a pair of balls of his own for 21 yards. Defense ruled the day for the Jags, as Jacksonville combined for 5 interceptions of Ben Roethlisberger, including a pair from Tashaun Gipson and a 28-yard pick-six from Telvin Smith and a 51-yard pick-six from Barry Church.
Los Angeles is 3-13-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following a loss while the under is 9-2 in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record. Jacksonville is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 home games. Los Angeles is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I was on the Jags to cover last week and it paid off, and it paid off even more if you backed them to win outright, so I’m going to do more of the same here. Don’t get me wrong, I’m high on the Rams this season as I think they could sneak into the NFC West title if they play their cards right. However, the Jaguars’ defense has to be feeling good after how they dominated one of the league’s best QBs, and Goff looked human last week so I think there could be some hangover here. Not to mention, the Jaguars and Leonard Fournette boast the best ground attack in the league, averaging over 165 rushing yards per game, and the Rams have had trouble stopping the run this season, so while I think it will be close, I think Jacksonville can take another step and win by at least a field goal.
