The Atlanta Falcons and the New York Jets duke it out in week 8 NFL action from MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Atlanta Falcons will be out to snap a 3-game losing streak that’s seen the Falcons fall back to .500 at 3-3 following a 23-7 loss to New England in week 7’s edition of Sunday Night Football. Matt Ryan threw for 233 yards and a touchdown on 23 of 33 passing, while Devonta Freeman led Atlanta’s ground attack with 12 rushes for 72 yards. Julio Jones led the Falcons’ receiving corps with 9 catches for 99 yards and a touchdown, while Mohamed Sanu added 6 receptions for 65 yards in the loss. Defensively, Atlanta combined for a pair of sacks and a forced fumble, all while allowing 403 yards of total offense to New England while also letting the Pats hold onto the rock for over 34 minutes in the loss.
The New York Jets will try to bounce back after letting one slip away in week 7, falling back under .500 at 3-4 with a 31-28 loss to the Dolphins. Josh McCown threw for 209 yards and 3 touchdowns with an interception on 17 of 27 passing, while also rushing for a 4th TD. Bilal Powell led the team with 43 rushing yards on 9 carries, and Matt Forte added 41 rushing yards on 7 carries while also leading the Jets in receiving with 5 catches for 41 yards. Powell added a pair of catches for 40 yards of his own, while Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse and Austin Seferian-Jenkins all hauled in TD passes in the loss. On defense, the Jets combined for 3 sacks, a pair of interceptions and a forced fumble, but couldn’t get the stops they needed late as the Dolphins outscored New York by a 17-0 margin in the final stanza.
Atlanta is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 8-0-1 in their last 9 games against a team with a losing record. New York is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 8-3-1 in their last 12 games following a loss.
Call me crazy, but I’m not about to lay points like this with Atlanta on the road after how they’ve looked the last couple of weeks. I mean this is a Falcons team that granted was never a defensive powerhouse to begin with, but they’ve already coughed up two big leads during this 3-game losing skid to teams that are on par with the Jets, who mind you have been playing with more confidence over the last month. I think the Jets know that one got away last week, but they have a chance to catch a reeling Falcons team here. The Jets have also covered all three of their home games this season, so I’ll the Jets and the points in a game that New York has a real shot at winning outright.
