We have an AFC West showdown on tap to close out week 8 as the Denver Broncos square off against the Kansas City Chiefs from Arrowhead Stadium on Monday Night Football.
The Denver Broncos will try to bounce back after dropping back-to-back games, including being shut out in their last outing by a final score of 21-0 at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers. Trevor Siemian threw for 207 yards on 25 of 35 passing with an interception, while C.J. Anderson rushed for 44 yards on 10 carries. A.J. Derby led the team with 6 catches for 66 yards, while Bennie Fowler followed right behind with 5 catches for 45 yards. Defensively, the Broncos combined for 3 sacks, all while holding the Chargers to just 242 yards of total offense in the losing effort.
The Kansas City Chiefs will also try to stop the bleeding after going from the league’s last undefeated team to losing 2 straight after a 31-30 loss to the Oakland Raiders in week 7’s edition of Thursday Night Football. Alex Smith threw for 342 yards and 3 touchdowns on 25 of 36 passing, while Kareem Hunt led the team with 87 rushing yards on 18 carries. Tyreek Hill led KC with 6 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown, while Albert Wilson and Travis Kelce each hauled in a TD grab as well in addition to 5 catches and 69 receiving yards from Demarcus Robinson. It was an unusually poor outing from the Chiefs’ defense, allowing over 500 yards of total offense and 32 first downs to the Raiders in the loss.
Denver is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 division matchups while the under is 8-1 in their last 9 games following a loss. Kansas City is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 division matchups and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall while the under is 40-18 in their last 58 home games. Denver is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Kansas City.
Neither of these teams come into this one all too hot, but the Chiefs have had the extra rest and Arrowhead is one of the toughest places to go on the road and win. Denver hasn’t looked very good over the last couple of weeks, and I think Kansas City gets back on track and adds to Denver’s misery with a win and cover at home here.
