The New York Jets look to keep their surprising season afloat as they welcome the Carolina Panthers to MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
The Panthers head into New York on Sunday looking to stay red hot against the spread on the road as they have covered in six of their last seven away from home, and with the regular season heating up and the playoffs just around the corner the Cats know they need to get a win here to stay in the mix in the NFC South. The Panthers have had issues with inconsistency this season and have struggled to string together championship caliber results on weekly basis but this is one where they should have success on both sides of the ball as they can eat up the Jets defense with their running game that features a rejuvenated Christian McCaffery and Cam Newton who has made his living keeping plays alive with his feet. However, if the Jets can get to Newton in the pocket this could be a long afternoon for the Panthers who have struggled against team with a strong pass rush.
The Jets meanwhile came into the season under a microscope as many had this team pegged for a winless season as many thought they had one of the worst rosters on paper in league history but they have responded nicely with a strong campaign and look like a group that should be in the mix for a playoff spot as early as next season. New York has thrived with Josh McCown under center and while he is not the answer long term he is more than capable of keeping this team in games for the next couple of seasons and if they can add some secondary pieces around him on the offensive side of the ball they should be able to ride their defense to a handful of wins in the AFC East.
The Panthers are 5-2 in their last seven games overall and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games in November while the Jets are 6-0 ATS in their last six home games and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. Carolina has had a few games this season where they look like Super Bowl contenders but they have been few and far between and while they should do enough to get the win here I think the Jets are more than capable of keeping this one close and well within the five point line.
