The Pittsburgh Steelers look to make a statement as they head into Cincinnati for an AFC North division show down with the Bengals on Monday Night Football.
The Steelers netted a prime time win last weekend but it didn’t come easy as they needed a last second field goal to take down the Green Bay Packers at home and now they head into Cincinnati to take on their hated rivals in a game that has big time playoff implications in the AFC. Pittsburgh has battled bouts of inconsistency this season and have looked like Super Bowl contenders in some weeks and a top end drafting team in others as they have some suspect losses and some nail biting victories but overall they are right in the mix as one of the league’s best teams and will be out to show the rest of the AFC that they are worthy of a potential first round bye. Pittsburgh is 12-3 against the number in their last 15 games in December but get a Bengals side still playing for a wild card berth and will be out to keep the Steelers offense at bay.
The Bengals meanwhile are 5-6 on the year and 3-2 overall at home but face a stiff test here against a Steelers group that is receiving a ton of public money right now as the line continues to shift. Cincy has had significant strides since their dismal start to the season but they are still playing catch up and need this victory to stay in the mix as a potential wild card team as the season draws near a close. The Bengals will need a healthy dose of Joe Mixon in this one if they’re going to slow down the game and keep the electric Steelers offense off the field and the young rookie is certainly capable of producing a big game if he is given the opportunity.
The Steelers are 5-0-1 ATS in their last six following a failure to cover and are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games in week 13 while the Bengals are 4-1 ATS in their last five in Week 13 and 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games. The Steelers did not look good last weekend against a undermanned Packers side and on the road in a divisional game in prime time against a bitter rival with Cincy’s season on the line I think the Bengals keep this one within five points.
