We have a pivotal AFC West showdown on tap Saturday night, as the Los Angeles Chargers face off against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Los Angeles Chargers come into this one sitting at 7-6 in a tie atop the AFC West with the Chiefs after their 4th straight win, a 30-13 victory over the Redskins. Philip Rivers threw for 319 yards and 2 touchdowns on 18 of 31 passing, while Melvin Gordon led the team with 78 rushing yards and a touchdown with his 22 carries. Tyrell Williams led the Chargers’ receiving corps with 132 yards and a touchdown on 4 receptions, while Keenan Allen caught a team-high 6 passes for 111 yards and Hunter Henry added 4 catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. On defense, L.A. combined for 2 sacks and an interception all while holding the Redskins to just 201 yards of total offense with a 2 for 12 mark on 3rd down and just under 25 minutes of possession in the win.

The Kansas City Chiefs will try to find their footing again after also climbing to 7-6 with a 26-15 victory over the Oakland Raiders. Alex Smith threw for 268 yards and an interception on 20 of 34 passing, while Kareem Hunt led the team with 116 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries and Charcandrick West added 25 rushing yards and a touchdown of his own. Tyreek Hill led KC’s receivers with 75 receiving yards, while Travis Kelce came right behind with a team-high 7 catches for 74 yards and Albert Wilson added 5 catches for 72 yards. On defense, Kansas City combined for 3 sacks, a pair of interceptions and a forced fumble which they also recovered, all while giving up just 268 yards of total offense with just over 23 minutes of possession in the winning effort.
Los Angeles is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 25-9-1 in their last 35 games following a win. Kansas City is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games against the AFC West and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 42-19 in their last 61 home games. Los Angeles is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Kansas City and the road team is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
This is arguably the biggest game of the season for both teams, and with that said, I’m still not sold on the Chiefs. Sure, they got a big win against Oakland in their last outing, but the Raiders were missing a big part of their offense in Amari Cooper. L.A. is 7-3 since losing to Kansas City in week 3, and since then their offense has been red hot. The Chargers need this game not only to take the division lead, but to help their cause in the event that a tiebreaker is needed, so while winning at Arrowhead can be difficult, I like the Chargers to keep their momentum going with a big road win and cover here.
