Home field in the AFC could be up for grabs here, as the Pittsburgh Steelers host the New England Patriots at Heinz Field on Sunday afternoon in week 15 NFL action.
The New England Patriots come into this one looking to bounce back after having their 8 game winning streak snapped thanks to a 27-20 loss to Miami on week 14’s edition of Monday Night Football. Tom Brady threw for 233 yards, a touchdown and 2 interceptions on 24 of 43 passing, while the tandem of Dion Lewis and Rex Burkhead combined for just 25 yards rushing, with Burkhead adding a rushing touchdown. Danny Amendola led the team with 6 catches for 76 yards, while Lewis and Burkhead each logged 5 catches and James White hauled in the team’s lone receiving touchdown in the loss. On defense, the Patriots combined for a pair of sacks while giving up 362 yards of total offense, a 4 for 14 mark on 3rd down and over 36 minutes of possession to the Dolphins in the loss.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will look for a big win to add to their current 8 game winning streak following a 39-38 win over Baltimore in week 14’s edition of Sunday Night Football. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 506 yards and 2 touchdowns on 44 of 66 passing, while Le’Veon Bell added 48 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. Antonio Brown was an absolute monster, catching a team-high 11 passes for 213 yards. Jesse James added 10 catches for 97 yards, while the aforementioned Bell added 9 catches out of the backfield for 77 yards and a touchdown. Roosevelt Nix added a touchdown grab of his own for Pittsburgh in the win. On defense, the Steelers combined for a sack, an interception and a pair of forced fumbles as they gave up 413 yards of total offense while holding the Ravens to just over 26 minutes of possession in the win.
New England is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road games and 34-16-2 ATS in their last 52 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Pittsburgh is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a win while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. New England is 12-4 ATS in the last 16 meetings between these two teams and 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Pittsburgh.
To be honest, I first told myself before a line came out that I’d take the points no matter what because you couldn’t go wrong either way. And I was assuming I would get the Patriots as an underdog, which is why I was a bit surprised to see them as the favorite. However, after digging deeper, I found that Tom Brady is 8-1 in his last 9 starts against the Steelers in the regular season and playoffs, throwing for 23 touchdowns and zero interceptions over that span. Brady and the Pats looked horrible in the game against Miami, going 0 for 11 on 3rd down, and as good as the Steelers have played, I can’t remember the last time Brady had poor outings back-to-back. These Patriots aren’t scared of the big time situation and with Pittsburgh in the driver’s seat for home field right now, I think the pressure is on for New England, and in turn, I think the Patriots respond with a massive road win and cover here.
