The New York Jets look to stay red hot against the number at home as they welcome the Los Angeles Chargers to Met Life on Sunday.
The Chargers look to keep their playoff hopes intact as they head into New York to face off against a Jets side that has defied expectations this season and are looking like a team that is suitable to play spoiler as the season winds down. The Chargers have become a trendy pick to do some damage in the AFC as they are finally starting to look like a team that is capable of beating anybody as their offense is among the league’s best and their defense isn’t too shabby either as Joey Bosa is anchoring one of the best up and coming units in the league. Los Angeles has covered 14 of their last 21 games on the road but in December they have really fallen off over the last two seasons as they are just 1-6 in their last seven and don’t seem to be too comfortable playing in the elements of late season football.
The Jets meanwhile are going to fall well short of the playoffs but they have surprised a lot of people this season by going 5-9 so far and have the potential to finish at 7-9 which is a more than respectable record considering many had this team pegged as the league’s worst coming into the year. New York will have to address some issues in the offseason as they are still a step behind most teams on the offensive side of the ball, but defensively they are looking very nice as they are led by Leonard Williams and have Jamal Adams anchoring the secondary but that won’t help them a whole lot in games where Bryce Petty is starting and that is where we are at this weekend.
The Chargers are 4-1 in their last five games in week 16 and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall while the Jets are 8-1 ATS in their last nine on turf and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight against the AC. Los Angeles needs to win here to keep their playoff hopes alive and while the Jets are a decent team at home I don’t think we can trust Petty right now as the Chargers get a late cover.
