The Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons meet up in Georgia on Sunday as the Cats aim for top spot in the NFC South with a victory.
The Panthers look to continue their red hot play and lay claim to top spot in the NFC South with a divisional road victory against the Atlanta Falcons who are clinging to a playoff spot in their own right and will be playing desperate football. The Panthers had a couple of early season hurdles but they have been spectacular over the last couple of months and are looking like a team who could potentially create some waves in the NFC playoff landscape and while they were atrocious through their air last week they are in a good position to bounce back here against the Falcons. Carolina is a modest 3-8 in their last 11 ATS against divisional opponents and they are 2-7 in their last nine against the number in Atlanta which makes this one an interesting line sitting at a field goal for the home side.
The Falcons meanwhile are playing for their playoff lives in this one as they are in the hunt for the final wild card spot in the NFC but they need a victory to ensure their place as the Seahawks are right on their heels and a loss here to the Panthers could seal their fate. Atlanta is the reigning NFC champion and many expected this would be a team that would be right back in the Super Bowl this season, but some changes to their personnel and teams being better adjusted to their game plans, plus a first place schedule has shifted Atlanta’s fate this season as they currently sit in third in the NFC South with a 9-6 record.
The Panthers are 5-1 in their last six games on grass and 7-2 ATS in their last nine road games while Atlanta is 1-4 in their last five ATS in week 17 and 20-8 in their last 28 ATS when scoring fewer than 15 points in their previous game. Carolina still has a ton to play for here and while Atlanta is at home I think this line is moving in the wrong direction but it works out better for us.
