Coming up on Friday, August 10 from MetLife Stadium, we’ve got preseason NFL week one action between the Atlanta Falcons and the New York Jets.

2017 was the Falcons’ first year in their new stadium, and the team started things off right with a 10-6 regular season that included wins over the Packers, Seahawks, Panthers and Saints. Atlanta managed to snag a Wild Card berth, and took out the Rams in their first playoff game. In the Divisional round against the eventual champion Eagles, Atlanta took a tough 15-10 loss which ended their campaign.

New York Jets vs. Atlanta Falcons - 8/10/18 NFL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

Matt Ryan will be back under center for the Falcons this season, with Devonta Freeman backing him up at RB. The receiving corps for Atlanta should be a relative strong point, with names like Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu and Calvin Ridley in the mix.

As for the Jets, they had high hopes for 2017 and started out with a 3-2 record. New York would go on to win just two games after Week 5, however, and they would end up at 5-11. It was the seventh straight year the Jets missed the playoffs.

There’s reason to be optimistic if you’re a Jets fan heading into 2018. New York bagged arguably the best QB in the draft in Sam Darnold, who will learn from veteran Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater (provided New York doesn’t throw their rookie into the fire in Week 1). Isaiah Crowell and Bilal Powell come in as the RB tandem, while the WR corps has some potential in Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse and Quincy Enunwa.

The Falcons are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games and the under is 7-0 in their last seven overall. The under is 4-0 in Atlanta’s last four road games and the over is 16-5 in their last 21 games on fieldturf.

Meanwhile, the Jets are 8-1 in their last nine home games and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games on field turf. New York is 9-4-1 ATS in the last 14 games overall and the over is 4-1 in their last five home games.

We won’t see much (if any) of the Falcons’ marquis players in this one, but the main attraction here will be on the other side, seeing rookie Sam Darnold get his first field time as an NFL QB. New York is deep at the quarterback spot, which makes sense why they’re favored here. I don’t ever pick the Jets for much of anything, but this might not be a bad spot to try it out.
