The Detroit Lions look for a preseason victory as they take to the road to face off with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday night.
The Lions approach the regular season with some optimism that they will be able to compete in the NFC North this season as they have a handful of talented play makers on offense and a serviceable defense that continues to add pieces. However, Matt Patricia is winless in his first two preseason games as a head coach and the Lions will look to turn that around in Tampa against a Bucs side that many don’t have high hopes for this season yet they have won their first two exhibition contests and will be searching for a third. Kenny Golladay is hoping for a breakout season and might be leaned on heavily in this spot against the Bucs while rookie running back Kerryon Johnson should see some high volume snaps here as well as he competes for the starting job in the Lions back field.

The Bucs meanwhile are a polarizing side as some have them on pace for a potential run to the postseason while others think they are a basement dweller and will be drafting in the top three next year and how their season unfolds will be based largely on the play of Jameis Winston. Tampa was supposed to be a contender last season but they couldn’t ever piece things together but with Mike Evans, Desean Jackson, and OJ Howard available through the air and rookie back Ronald Jones on the ground the Bucs should be able to give Winston a bit of relief if things start to go awry.
The Lions are 4-1 in their last five ATS in their last five against the NFC and have played to the under in 24 of their last 35 road games while the Bucs are under in five of their last six at home and are a woeful 2-10 ATS in their last 12 against Detroit. This line is moving in favour of the Bucs but Detroit is the better team and as kick off approaches we should see this at a field goal that we won’t need.
