The San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts meet Saturday in NFL preseason action at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The San Francisco 49ers are now 1-1 in preseason action after losing to the Houston Texans, 13-16. In the losing effort, Jimmy Garoppolo and Nick Mullens combined for 223 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Jeremy McNichols led the 49ers with 28 rushing yards on 10 attempts while Marquise Goodwin and Victor Bolden Jr. combined for 93 receiving yards on four receptions. Sheldon Day led the 49ers with five tackles, Emmanuel Moseley had one interception and Fred Warner had one tackle for loss. Garoppolo was damn near perfect in two series he played last week and seems to have a good pulse on this offense. The 49ers have also nearly split the time of possession in both games and the margin of victory has been a combined six points. In fact, three of the last four 49ers games have been decided by three or less points. The San Francisco 49ers have split their last six preseason games.
The Indianapolis Colts are now 1-1 in preseason action after losing to the Baltimore Ravens, 19-20. In the losing effort, Jacoby Brissett and Andrew Luck combined for 222 passing yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. Jordan Wilkins led the Colts with 26 rushing yards on seven attempts while Steve Ishmael and Chester Rogers combined for 88 receiving yards on four receptions. Zaire Franklin led the Colts with nine tackles, John Simon had one sack and Hassan Ridgeway had three tackles for loss. The Colts are coming off a heartbreaking loss on primetime Monday night, as the offense produced just 15 first downs and turned the ball over three times. The good news is Luck threw 15 passes in the game, as he’s clearly ramping up his reps and should be ready to go by the time the regular season begins. Of course, this should be the game where we see the Pro Bowl QB step it up even more in hopes of removing as much rust as possible. The Indianapolis Colts have split their last 10 preseason games.
The 49ers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Colts are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games on fieldturf. The 49ers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 meetings, the underdog is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings and the road team is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
The 49ers have a much more trustworthy quarterback who will see majority of the reps here and should be able to take advantage of the fast indoor track. The Colts have four turnovers in two games and go long stretches where the offense doesn't do much of anything. Overall, the 49ers have split their two preseason games by a combined margin of six points, while the Colts have split their two preseason games by a combined margin of three points. That should tell you just how tight these lines are in this preseason stuff. So, give me the points.
