The Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans meet Sunday in NFL action at Nissan Stadium.
The Houston Texans play back-to-back road games and look to avoid their first 0-2 start since 2015. The Houston Texans have lost each of their last eight road games. Deshaun Watson is completing 50 percent of his passes for 176 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Watson has two or more touchdown passes in five of his last six games. DeAndre Hopkins and Bruce Ellington have combined for 115 receiving yards and one touchdown while Jordan Thomas has one reception. The Houston Texans ground game is averaging 167 yards per contest, and Lamar Miller leads the way with 98 yards on 20 carries. Defensively, Houston is allowing 27 points and 389 yards per game. Kareem Jackson leads the Houston Texans with eight tackles, D.J. Reader has two sacks and Tyrann Mathieu has one interception.
The Tennessee Titans also look for a bounce back performance to avoid their first 0-2 start since the 2012 season. The Tennessee Titans have won six of their last seven home games. Marcus Mariota is completing 56.3 percent of his passes for 103 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Mariota has one touchdown pass and three interceptions his last three games. Corey Davis and Delanie Walker have combined for 114 receiving yards on 10 receptions while Luke Stocker has two receptions. The Tennessee Titans ground game is averaging 116 yards per contest, and Dion Lewis leads the way with 75 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Tennessee is allowing 27 points and 342 yards per game. Wesley Woodyard leads the Tennessee Titans with 12 tackles, Kamalei Correa has one sack and Kenny Vaccaro has one interception.
The Texans are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games, 3-7 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Titans are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 home games, 17-36-3 ATS in their last 56 vs. AFC South and 15-40-4 ATS in their last 59 vs. AFC. The Texans are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings in Tennessee, 7-2 ATS in their last 9 meetings and the favorite is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings.
The Tennessee Titans didn't look good last week, as the defense was gashed both through the air on the ground, and at some point we have to stop waiting on Mariota to turn the corner. Mariota consistently struggles to make plays and seems to get injured every other game. The Houston Texans had their chances to beat the New England Patriots on the road, and that was with Watson struggling. It's only a matter of time before the former Clemson quarterback shakes the rust and leads the Texans to a balanced football team. Due to the lack of trust I have in the Titans and the fact the Texans have won six of the last eight meetings between these clubs, I'm going to lay the field goal with Houston.
