The Kansas City Chiefs look to stay unbeaten as they welcome the San Francisco 49ers to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.
The Niners look for their second win of the season as they travel East to face off against a very good Chiefs side who has looked like Super Bowl contenders through the first two weeks in what should be a very hostile environment for Jimmy Garropolo and company. San Fran came into the season as a trendy pick to make some noise in the NFC West and while there are still some huge concerns from the Cardinals and Seahawks they have a ways to go before they can be mentioned in the same breath as the Rams who look every bit the part of a Lombardi winner this season. San Francisco will need a big afternoon out of Jimmy G and the offense if they’re going to keep this one close as the Chiefs have been lighting up the score board and have become enthralled with their rookie pivot Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs were expected to be in the mix for the divisional crown heading into the season but they have loftier expectations than that now as they have top spot in the conference in sight if they continue playing the way they have through two weeks. Kansas City’s offense looks unstoppable at the moment and a huge part of it is because of the play of Mahomes who has accounted for 10 touchdowns in his first two NFL starts and is looking like a lock to claim some hardware at season’s end if this pace continues. Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill provide a trifecta of weapons at Mahomes’ disposal and against a Niners defense that hasn’t looked great and will be traveling across the country this weekend.
The Niners are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games and 1-5 ATs in their last six Week 3 games while the Chiefs are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games and the home team has covered in five of the last six meetings between these teams. San Fran has been a bit slow to start the season and while the Chiefs are perhaps getting a few too many points here they have given us no reason to fade them thus far and should cover the number at home.
