The Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins meet Sunday in NFL action at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Detroit Lions are coming off a bye and look for their first road victory of the year to get back to a .500 record. The Detroit Lions have split their last 10 road games. Matthew Stafford is completing 66 percent of his passes for 1,385 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. Stafford has two or more touchdown passes in six of his last eight games. Golden Tate and Kenny Golladay have combined for 859 receiving yards and six touchdowns while Marvin Jones Jr. has 16 receptions. The Detroit Lions ground game is averaging 97.2 yards per contest, and Kerryon Johnson leads the way with 286 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Detroit is allowing 27.4 points and 367.8 yards per game. Jarrad Davis leads the Detroit Lions with 35 tackles, Devon Kennard has five sacks and Quandre Diggs has one interception.
The Miami Dolphins look to remain undefeated at home to keep pace in the AFC East. The Miami Dolphins have won seven of their last 10 home games. Brock Osweiler is completing 65.3 percent of his passes for 415 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Osweiler and Ryan Tannehill have combined for 12 touchdown passes and seven interceptions this season. Albert Wilson and Kenny Stills have combined for 635 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while Danny Amendola has 24 receptions. The Miami Dolphins ground game is averaging 106.8 yards per contest, and Frank Gore leads the way with 303 yards on 62 carries. Defensively, Miami is allowing 24.2 points and 396.7 yards per game. Kiko Alonso leads the Miami Dolphins with 61 tackles, Jerome Baker has two sacks and Xavien Howard has three interceptions.
The Lions are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a bye week, 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games on grass and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Dolphins are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games on grass and 2-5-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. The over is 7-2 in Dolphins last 9 home games and the over is 5-1 in Lions last 6 games overall.
The Detroit Lions have the rest advantage, but they're still looking for their first road win of the season. The Lions defense has been shaky at best, and I'm not sure I trust Stafford and company outside of their comfy dome. The Miami Dolphins will again be without Tannehill, but I'm not sure that matters much, as the gameplan doesn't change much with Osweiler. The Dolphins continue to rely on their defense, short passing game and ground attack to win games. In the Dolphins win over the Bears, Miami didn't ask Osweiler to do anything different that they ask from Tannehill each week. You can make a case we're getting the better team and the free points, as the Dolphins have been highly successful at home dating back to last year. I'll take my free field goal here.
