The Atlanta Falcons and Washington Redskins meet Sunday in NFL action at FedEx Field.
The Atlanta Falcons look for a third straight victory to get back to a .500 record. The Atlanta Falcons have lost both of their road games this season. Matt Ryan is completing 71.1 percent of his passes for 2,335 yards, 15 touchdowns and two interceptions. Ryan two or more touchdown passes in four of his last six games. Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley have combined for 1,204 receiving yards and six touchdowns while Mohamed Sanu has 24 receptions. The Atlanta Falcons ground game is averaging 82.3 yards per contest, and Tevin Coleman leads the way with 310 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Atlanta is allowing 30.3 points and 419.4 yards per game. Brian Poole leads the Atlanta Falcons with 41 tackles, Takkarist McKinley has 5.5 sacks and Damontae Kazee has three interceptions.
The Washington Redskins look for a fourth straight victory to build on their lead in the NFC East. The Washington Redskins have won their last three home games. Alex Smith is completing 63.2 percent of his passes for 1,561 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions. Smith has two or more touchdown passes in seven of his last 14 games. Jordan Reed and Paul Richardson have combined for 552 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Chris Thompson has 28 receptions. The Washington Redskins ground game is averaging 128 yards per contest, and Adrian Peterson leads the way with 587 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Washington is allowing 19.1 points and 322.4 yards per game. Mason Foster leads the Washington Redskins with 64 tackles, Matt Ioannidis has 5.5 sacks and D.J. Swearinger has four interceptions.
The Falcons are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in November and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Redskins are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. NFC and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The road team is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings. The under is 9-2 in Redskins last 11 games overall and the over is 5-1 in Falcons last 6 games overall.
The Atlanta Falcons headed into the bye week on back-to-back victories, but those wins came against teams with a combined record of 4-11. Yes, byes give teams extra time to prepare and for injured players to get healthy, but the Falcons are downright awful defensively and have yet to prove this season they can win outside of their comfy dome. The Washington Redskins have been consistent defensively and just got another solid player to add to that unit by trading for HaHa Clinton-Dix. The Redskins offense is also starting to get Adrian Peterson going, which is turning this club into a balanced and sneaky good football team. I can't back the Falcons until I see this team improve defensively. I'll eat the small chalk with the Redskins at home.
