The Los Angeles Chargers and the Pittsburgh Steelers meet in week 13’s instalment of Sunday night football from Heinz Field.
The Los Angeles Chargers will look to keep their momentum going after winning 7 of their last 8 games with a 45-10 win over Arizona in their last outing. Philip Rivers has thrown for 3,119 yards, 26 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on 69.5% passing while Melvin Gordon III has rushed for a team-high 802 yards and 9 touchdowns but Gordon III is expected to miss this game due to a knee injury. Keenan Allen leads L.A.’s receiving corps with 69 catches for 848 yards and 4 touchdowns while Tyrell Williams has 519 receiving yards this season. Defensively, Melvin Ingram III has a team-high 5.5 sacks while Derwin James has 3.5 sacks and a L.A.-leading 54 tackles this season. As a team, Los Angeles is averaging 402 yards of total offense and 27.9 points per game this season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will look to rebound after having their 6-game winning streak snapped with a 24-17 loss to Denver in their last outing. Ben Roethlisberger has thrown for 3,664 yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 66.1% passing while James Conner has rushed for 849 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. JuJu Smith-Schuster leads the Steelers’ receiving corps with 77 catches for 1,055 yards with 4 touchdowns while Antonio Brown has 71 grabs for 874 yards and 11 TDs this season. Defensively, T.J. Watt leads Pittsburgh with 10 sacks while Sean Davis has a team-high 42 tackles this season. As a team, Pittsburgh is averaging 420.8 yards of total offense and 28.7 points per game this season.
Los Angeles is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the AFC. Pittsburgh is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 week 13 matchups. Los Angeles is 3-8 ATS in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and 2-5 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are always a tough out at home, but Roethlisberger throwing that goal-line pick against the Broncos really did a number on my confidence in the Steelers. Los Angeles has been solid on the road this season, and I do have my concerns about the Chargers’ offense without Gordon III in the backfield. However, this isn’t really a look-ahead spot for the Chargers, but the fact is that Los Angeles needs to keep winning to keep pace with the Chiefs if the Chargers want their week 15 division clash to have an implication on the standings. I’ll take the points with the Chargers as I think Los Angeles needs this game just a bit more than the Steelers do and Los Angeles treats it as such.
