The Line: San Francisco 49ers -3 -- Over/Under: 45.5
The Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers meet Monday afternoon in a Madden20 simulation game.
The Green Bay Packers have three players ranked 90 or better overall in left tackle David Bakhtiari, wide receiver Davante Adams and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers comes in with an 89 rating overall, a 82 rating in acceleration and a 91 awareness rating. Of course, a lot of the Packers success comes down to quarterback play and as long as he takes care of the ball, they’ll give you a chance to win no matter who they play. The problem is the Packers have limited weapons outside of quarterback, so scoring can be limited at times and the ground game has been weak in past simulations. However, the Green Bay Packers have eight players with an awareness rating of at least 90, which is important in a computer simulation where you’re counting on guys to do their job correctly.
The San Francisco 49ers have 10 different players who are ranked 85 overall or better. Tight end George Kittle leads the charge with a 97 overall rating and cornerback Richard Sherman has a 94 overall rating. Defensive end Nick Bosa, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and left tackle Joe Staley all have 89 ratings. The San Francisco 49ers are obviously one of the more balanced and highest rated teams in the game and have very little weakness. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has an 84 rating and an above-average acceleration to avoid pressure. On either side of the ball, you have to like the 49ers to show up and put together a consistent performance no matter who they play.
While the virtual world isn't nearly the same as real life, it's hard to see the way Aaron Rodgers dealt with this San Francisco 49ers defensive front twice and back the Packers in this contest. The 49ers got to Rodgers with ease and really prevented him from doing anything in the passing game. Again, things could play out differently in the video game, but this is still a highly rate 49ers defense and a Packers offense that's not nearly as explosive as years past. I have to lay the cheap line with the 49ers.
