The New England Patriots have three players ranked in the 90s in cornerback Stephon Gilmore, quarterback Tom Brady and safety Devin McCourty. This day is obviously all about Brady with the Patriots hosting four simulation games, and he brings a 95 awareness rating to the table with a 70 agility rating. However, when you throw in linebacker Dont’a Hightower and his 88 overall rating, the Pats rely heavily on their defense in this game with three of their top-four ranked players being on that side of the ball. Offensively, wide receiver Julian Edelman has a solid 91 acceleration rating and 87 overall rating, while the offensive line has three players with an 84 overall rating or above. The New England Patriots are short on offensive weapons, but they have an effective defense and a quarterback who doesn’t get fooled often and takes care of the football.
The Philadelphia Eagles have a lot to offer in the Madden world with four players ranked 90 or better overall. Those players include tight end Zach Ertz, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and offensive linemen Brandon Brooks and Jason Kelce. Throw in Lane Johnson and Jason Peters, and the Eagles have possibly the best offensive line in the game, making things easy for running backs Josh Howard and Miles Sanders. Quarterback Carson Wentz also has a lot of time to throw the ball, and he’s decently rated at 83 overall, 83 awareness, 81 speed and 87 acceleration. We also can’t forget about wide receiver Desean Jackson, who has a 94 speed rating and 93 acceleration rating, making him one of the biggest x-factors in the game due to his game changing wheels. The Philadelphia Eagles are reliable in the trenches and that makes them a valuable team to back in computer simulations where it’s usually the little things that make a difference.
The New England Patriots are better offensively and have the more trustworthy quarterback when you're putting your money on the computer, but we're getting free points with the Philadelphia Eagles at home. While they didn't do much this season in real life and it was a frustrating season overall, the Philadelphia Eagles are the highest rated team in this game with a 89 overall rating. The Philadelphia Eagles control the trenches and have a defense that gives up nothing easy.
I'll gladly take my chances with the Eagles and the free field goal.
