The Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots meet in a Madden 20 NFL Sim Classic matchup on Thursday night.
The Kansas City Chiefs come into this game with a Sim Classic record of 2-1 after picking up a 40-26 win over Denver in their last game. Patrick Mahomes comes into this one as one of the game’s five highly sought after players with a 99 overall rating, with 96 throwing power as well as 97 short pass accuracy, 95 medium pass accuracy and 93 deep pass accuracy. Tyreek Hill isn’t far off of the pace at the top of the mountain at 96 overall, with a 91 attribute rating in catching along with 97 juke, 99 speed, 99 acceleration and 98 agility while Travis Kelce is also at 96 overall as Kansas City’s top tight end with attributes of 99 awareness, 85 speed. 91 catching in traffic and 91 catching overall. On defense, Chris Jones and Tyrann Mathieu share the team-high rank on the Chiefs with Jones leading the pass rush at 92 overall with 91 strength, 90 tackling, 89 finesse move and 95 power move while Mathieu anchors KC’s secondary at 92 overall with a 90 man coverage rating as well as 89 in zone coverage while also being rated at 90 speed, and 92 in acceleration and 92 agility.
The New England Patriots come in with a Sim Classic record of 3-0 after a 34-26 win over Buffalo last time out. Tom Brady leads the Pats at QB in this game with a 91 overall rating with 90 throw power and 96 short pass accuracy while Julian Edelman is the leader in New England’s receiving corps at 87 overall with 91 acceleration, 91 agility and 85 catching. James White leads the Patriots’ rushing attack at 83 overall with 89 speed, 92 acceleration and 90 agility. On defense, Stephon Gilmore leads the Patriots with a 98 overall rating with 99 awareness and 92 speed with 94 acceleration and 94 agility while also rated at 98 in man coverage and 96 in zone coverage. Devin McCourty is New England’s second-highest rated DB at 92 overall with 93 zone coverage and 90 marks across the board in speed, agility and acceleration. Dont’a Hightower leads New England’s linebacking corps at 88 overall with 91 impact blocking and 92 tackling in addition to 93 play recognition and 93 pursuit.
This should be a great game between two of the better offenses in the game and the first time the two met saw New England win 45-38. With that said, I like what the Chiefs have on offense, but we’ve seen time and time again over the course of the sim matchups that KC’s defense has more holes than a block of swiss cheese, and the Chiefs haven’t been strangers to giving up 30-40 points on the regular. New England wasn’t overly convincing against teams like Miami and Buffalo, but the Patriots can pour it on offensively and are easier to trust on defense than the Chiefs. I’ll lay the points with New England here.
