The Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills meet Sunday afternoon in a Madden20 NFL simulation game.
The Carolina Panthers may not have won much in real life last season, but they have two difference makers in linebacker Luke Kuechly and running back Christian McCaffrey, both who are ranked 99 overall. The Panthers then have three other players rated 85 or higher in tight end Greg Olsen, defensive end Gerald McCoy and wide receiver DJ Moore. You quickly learn that the Panthers have a lot more talent in the video game world than they may have on the actual football field and you can win playing with this team. Since these are 2019 rosters, the Panthers also have a healthy and effective Cam Newton at quarterback, and he’s a decent 79 overall with an 85 speed rating and 88 acceleration rating. For a club that didn’t do much last year, the Panthers are much better than people would think.
The Buffalo Bills rely on their defense in this video game, as it’s the side of the ball where their top-four ranked players are. Micah Hyde, Tre-Davious White, Jordan Poyer and Lorenzo Alexander are the Bills top ranked players with overall ratings of at least 83 overall. The Bills offense is led by a pair of receivers who are ranked 83 overall in Cole Beasley and John Brown and they also have high awareness ratings as well which is key in these simulations. For quarterback, Josh Allen is rated 77 overall and has a speed rating of 84 and a 87 acceleration rating. Allen isn’t the most aware quarterback in the world and can struggle with accuracy, but he moves the pocket well and can make plays with his feet. The Bills aren’t the sexiest team in the world, but they get after it defensively and can do just enough offensively to cash a winning bet.
Both of these teams are pretty much in the same boat in that they're limited offensively and not exactly teams you look to get behind in these simulations. That's why I'm leaning toward the Bills and the free field goal, as if forced to pick between two average teams, I probably want free points in my pocket. In fact, the Bills defense is probably the best thing going in this game.
Give me the Bills and the points.
