The Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots meet Thursday afternoon in a Madden20 NFL simulation game.
The Cleveland Browns don’t ever accomplish anything in real life, but they have all the talent in the world that makes them intriguing in the video game. The Browns have three players ranked 90 or better in defensive end Myles Garrett, running back Nick Chubb and wide receiver Odell Beckham. The Browns have another highly ranked running back in Kareem Hunt at 88 and a speedy slot receiver in Jarvis Landry who is ranked at 84 overall and 91 acceleration. Quarterback Baker Mayfield went from an 83 overall to a 76, but his 82 speed and 86 acceleration makes him somebody who can extend plays and even move the chains with his legs at times. The Cleveland Browns are a team you can win a lot of games with in Madden.
The New England Patriots have three players ranked in the 90s in cornerback Stephon Gilmore, quarterback Tom Brady and safety Devin McCourty. This day is obviously all about Brady with the Patriots hosting four simulation games, and he brings a 95 awareness rating to the table with a 70 agility rating. However, when you throw in linebacker Dont’a Hightower and his 88 overall rating, the Pats rely heavily on their defense in this game with three of their top-four ranked players being on that side of the ball. Offensively, wide receiver Julian Edelman has a solid 91 acceleration rating and 87 overall rating, while the offensive line has three players with an 84 overall rating or above. The New England Patriots are short on offensive weapons, but they have an effective defense and a quarterback who doesn’t get fooled often and takes care of the football.
The New England Patriots aren't a team I'm thrilled about laying big chalk in these simulations because they can be sloppy on the defensive end, and we've seen them lose many times to teams they probably shouldn't. However, the Cleveland Browns don't pay up to their potential most simulations and their offense can really struggle to move the chains. This feels like a game the New England Patriots can grind to victory, but it will probably be an ugly watch.
I'll take the Pats by a touchdown.
