The Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals meet Tuesday afternoon in a Madden20 NFL simulation game.
The Carolina Panthers may not have won much in real life last season, but they have two difference makers in linebacker Luke Kuechly and running back Christian McCaffrey, both who are ranked 99 overall. The Panthers then have three other players rated 85 or higher in tight end Greg Olsen, defensive end Gerald McCoy and wide receiver DJ Moore. You quickly learn that the Panthers have a lot more talent in the video game world than they may have on the actual football field and you can win playing with this team. Since these are 2019 rosters, the Panthers also have a healthy and effective Cam Newton at quarterback, and he’s a decent 79 overall with an 85 speed rating and 88 acceleration rating. For a club that didn’t do much last year, the Panthers are much better than people would think.
The Cincinnati Bengals have three players ranked 87 overall or higher in wide receiver AJ Green, defensive tackle Geno Atkins and running back Joe Mixon. Throw in wide receiver Tyler Boyd who is an 83 overall and has a 92 acceleration rating, and the Bengals are a losing team in real life that actually is intriguing in the video game world. The obvious issue with the Bengals is quarterback Andy Dalton, who is 72 overall, and has a 73 awareness rating and a 75 speed rating. The Cincinnati Bengals have talent and are a surprisingly poor team you can win with in this game. However, in a computer simulation, you have to worry about Dalton and the questionable decisions he’s going to make with a low awareness rating.
There's not many times you're going to see the Carolina Panthers as a favorite in these simulations, which tells you what oddsmakers think of the Cincinnati Bengals in this spot. With that said, I find it a bit difficult to lay chalk with the Panthers because we're so used to seeing them in the underdog role. Just because the Panthers are running into one of the weaker teams in this game doesn't mean they should be laying a touchdown. Points are at a premium in these toss up simulations.
