The Los Angeles Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs meet in a Madden 20 NFL simulation game on Sunday night.
The Los Angeles Chargers will try to build on a 21-19 win over the Chicago Bears in their last sim matchup. Keenan Allen leads the charge for the Chargers at 92 overall with 90 catching and 94 catching in traffic in addition to 89 speed, 92 acceleration and 92 agility while Hunter Henry is L.A.’s top TE at 87 overall with 89 catching as well. Melvin Gordon III and Philip Rivers aren’t on the Chargers in reality anymore, but they’re still on L.A. in this game at 84 overall with Gordon rated at 92 speed and 92 agility with 90 carrying and 90 juke while Rivers has 94 short pass accuracy and 92 medium pass accuracy. On defense is where the Chargers are hiding their top-rated players with Joey Bosa leading the defensive push at 91 overall with 90 impact blocking as well as 97 finesse move and 87 strength while Casey Hayward Jr. is at 91 overall in the secondary with 91 acceleration and 92 agility in addition to 89 speed and 90+ ratings in man coverage and zone coverage. Melvin Ingram III and Derwin James Jr. each come in at 88 overall on the defensive end for the Chargers.
The Kansas City Chiefs come into this one looking to bounce back from a 48-33 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in their last matchup. Patrick Mahomes comes into this one as one of the game’s five highly-regarded 99 overall rated players, with 96 throwing power as well as 97 short pass accuracy, 95 medium pass accuracy and 93 deep pass accuracy. Tyreek Hill isn’t far off at 96 overall, with a 91 attribute rating in catching along with 97 juke, 99 speed, 99 acceleration and 98 agility. Travis Kelce is also at 96 overall as Kansas City’s top tight end with attributes of 99 awareness, 85 speed. 91 catching in traffic and 91 catching overall. On defense, Chris Jones and Tyrann Mathieu share the team-high on the Chiefs’ unit with Jones leading the pass rush at 92 overall with 91 strength, 90 tackling, 89 finesse move and 95 power move while Mathieu anchors KC’s secondary at 92 overall with a 90 man coverage rating as well as 89 in zone coverage while also being rated at 90 speed, and 92 in acceleration and 92 agility.
If we were basing this on reality, I’d be more inclined to take the defending champion Chiefs in a pick ‘em against the Chargers. However, the Chiefs defense continues to be a block of swiss cheese, giving up 30-40 points regularly. The Chargers have had issues of their own, but they’ve also provided a ton of value in the underdog and coin flip spots. There’s been enough of a sample size to suggest that the Chargers can get the job done here, so I’ll side with the Chargers in this pick ‘em.
