The Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions face off in an NFC North opening game NFL battle at Ford Field. The Bears have won the last four games played between the two teams.
The Chicago Bears knew coming into this season they needed better quarterback play, but they have decided to stick by Mitchell Trubisky. The Bears did trade for Nick Foles but at least for Week 1, it will be Trubisky who will be getting the start. Last season Trubisky threw for 3,138 yards, 17 touchdowns, and ten interceptions. Trubisky has said he is more confident this season but he needs to prove it on the field. Running back David Montgomery is back for his second season and he looked good at times last season but they need him to be more consistent. On defense the Bears are loaded led by Khalil Mack, and although he was good last year, they need him to also be better.
On the other side of this matchup is the Detroit Lions who dealt with injuries to Matthew Stafford last season and once he was lost, the season was basically over. Before Stafford was injured he was playing some really good football. One thing to watch is how they will use their running backs this season. The team still has Kerryon Johnson who is expected to have a big role, The team also drafted D’Andre Swift who is probable for this game. The Lions defense is also a big issue and will need to be improved upon this season if they want to be competitive. Last season the Lions defense was ranked 26th in football but the hope is some of the changes they made will help. The team brought in Jamie Collins, Desmond Trufant and Jeff Okduah.
The under is 7-1 in the Bears last eight games as an underdog. The Lions are 2-7 against the spread in their last nine against the NFC. The Lions are 2-9 against the spread in their last 11 games overall. The Bears are 5-2-1 against the spread in their last eight against the Lions.
Trubisky might have more confidence this season but his talent hasn’t improved and he is going to struggle in this game. It overall is going to be an ugly game, but the Lions will find a way to win this game and cover the spread.
