The Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off on Sunday in an NFC South showdown at Raymond James Stadium. Last year these two teams faced off twice with the visiting team winning each of the two games.
The Carolina Panthers made some big changes during the offseason including bringing in Joe Judge and Teddy Bridgewater to try and improve the team, but the first game still ended in a loss. Overall the Panthers have lost nine games in a row. In the first game of the season the Panthers offense was good putting up 30 points, buth the defense let them down giving up 34 points. Teddy Bridgewater threw for 269 yards and a touchdown. Christian McCaffrey had another big game putting up 97 yards and two touchdowns. Another offensive player this offseason was brought in was Robby Anderson who had 114 yards and a touchdown. In this game, the Panthers need their defense to be better or it’s going to be another long game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Buccaneers whose team also looks a lot different, but they can’t be very happy with how the first game went. The Buccaneers' first game was against the New Orleans Saints and although they got out to a fast start they struggled after that and that led to a 34-23 defeat. Tom Brady was the big signing this offseason, but all he was in game one was a disappointment throwing for 239 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw for two interceptions. This is an offense that is pretty banged up now and it doesn’t look like Chris Godwin is going to go in this game. On defense, the Buccaneers let the Saints do whatever they wanted.
The over is 13-3 in the Bucs last 16 games overall. The Bucs are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games in Week 2. The road team is 9-3 against the spread in the last 12 meetings between the Bucs and Panthers. The under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings between the Bucs and Panthers.
These are two defenses who have proven to not be good and that is going to continue in this game. Look for both quarterbacks to have big games, neither defenses are going to have any success and that will lead to this game going well over the total.
